Writing: Getting Started! 3 Things
Hi Writing Family. I've been absent from my blog due to my mother's illness and subsequent death, and my sister's unexpected and sudden death. My sister died on November 7, and my mother passed on November 16. I've finally got a handle on the grief, I think, and am ready to get about the business of living once more. So, let's talk about writing. You know you have new year's resolutions regarding your writing, so let's get started!
1) Find a quiet time and place where you can concentrate without interruptions. It may be in the middle of the night. It may be in the extra bathroom or walk-in closet. I've actually checked myself into various hotels for long weekends to find that space where I can concentrate.
2) Outline your story from beginning to end. There are many ways to do this, but make sure you have a beginning, a middle, and an end to your story. You can use flow charts and/or writing apps to get you going. But find a way that works for you to outline your story.
3) Write without editing and censoring yourself. My now deceased father was a Bishop. I have a husband and two sons. Plus I am a professional. So I'm always censoring myself. Suggestion: Use a pen name while you're writing. When you're finish your manuscript, then decide which name you want to use.
Well, writers, I wish the best for you in 2020. Take real good care of yourself and pace yourself. Love yourself and others without judgement. Move forward with faith in your writing endeavors. Do deep breathing exercises when you get stressed. Stretch your body throughout the day. Remember that everything you consume (by mouth, ear, nose, touch or sight) impacts your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. It can act as medicine or as toxins. Slow down and choose wisely. Love & Peace
